Our History - Three Decades of Service

We recently sat down to reflect on the past 30 years, and wanted to share our history with you. Our friendship and working relationship began 1977 while we were working together at a local medical equipment company in Atlanta.

Our idea was to open our own company to provide custom wheelchairs to children and adults in Atlanta and the outlying areas, so in 1985 Medical Rehab was created.  We had just 3 employees in the beginning, each wearing a variety of hats with multiple job descriptions.  Our goal was to create a company small enough to maintain quality with a personal touch, but large enough to service our clients, referrals and funding sources.

We continued to grow and add to our staff. What started as 3 employees is now a staff of 27 employees. We are proud to share with you that currently two key employees with the company today have been members of the Mobility Designs team since 1989.

In 1999, we purchased American Rehab, which expanded our adult client base.  At a retreat, our employees chose Mobility Designs to be our new name, as it truly reflects the scope of our business.

In 2000 we became one of the first rehab technology suppliers in Georgia  to become Joint Commission accredited and to obtain both our NRRTS registration and CRTS certifications. Also during that time our technicians and repair division became Gold certified by the MED group.  We are most proud of these accomplishments. 

In 2005 we celebrated 20 years, serving Georgia as an independent rehab technology supplier. Our goal and dream of expanding to reach clients all over the state has been reached.

Our team, which continues to become deeper and stronger as Mobility Designs grows, is well positioned and committed to continue to be Georgia’s premier independent custom wheelchair supplier.

We are proud of our past, our many accomplishments and look forward to continuing to service the state of Georgia for years to come.
